Eichhornia crassipes

Family:Pontederiaceae
Species:Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms
Common Name:water-hyacinth
Habitat:**
Associated Ecological Communities:Main channel stream, Midreach stream, Tidal creek, Tidal river
Growth Habit:Forb/herb
Duration:Perennial
Category:Vascular
Plant Notes:Numerous reports have been appearing around the state, but current evidence indicates this cannot over winter in our climate. The repeated introductions are of concern though as they increase the risk of a cold-tolerant plant establishing within our water. In the south, this is an extremely invasive aquatic plant, similar in impact to water chestnut.
