Plant Notes:Mitchell and Beal (1979) were uncertain of the status in New York. Mitchell and Tucker (1997) listed it as a non-persisting non-native in New York. This species is now considered naturalized in southeastern New York although it is not common. It is native south of New York and has likely become naturalized in New York from cultivated material. Two specimens of M. tripetala collected from the New York Botanical Garden in 1960 and housed at NY are not clearly labeled as cultivated but are likely cultivated.
