Family Alismataceae
Species: Sagittaria australis
Exclusion Explanation: Unvouchered report.
Accepted Name: **
Full Explanation: Haynes and Hellquist (2000) in FNA report this species from in or near Ontario County, New York. This report may be based on a specimen from Ontario County, perhaps Manchester collected by Redfield on 1 Sept. 1870. The identification of this specimen may be unclear and it appears that E.O. Beal considered it to be S. engelmanniana. It is unknown where this specimen is housed (C.B. Hellquist personal communication). Hellquist believes that S. australis probably does not occur in New York. We will keep searching for this specimen. The range of S. australis documented by Beal et al. (1982) which is based on numerous specimens, excludes New York.
